Eastern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Steve Shearer (issued Fri Apr 19th)

Features of the Forecast (tl;dr)

  • Offshore winds this weekend with small S swells both days
  • More small S pulses Mon AM, and Tues
  • Robust S swell likely Thurs into Fri as strong front sweeps past the state
  • SE swell likely next weekend as low forms in Tasman

Recap

Tiny surf yesterday with clean conditions, a S’ly change has bought some small short range S swell to 2-3ft today with fresh S’ly winds making a mess of most beaches.

This weekend and next week (Apr19- Apr26)

No great change to the f/cast outlook this weekend.

A weak trough and front in advance of a monster high pressure ridge sees a fresh S’ly flow today tend back to W’ly over the weekend as fronts below the state establish W’ly ridging.

No major swells this weekend so expect easing surf Sat morning with a few leftover 2ft sets , dropping through the day.

Small S swell wrap on Sun looks marginal but there is likely to be a few 2ft sets at S facing beaches under light/variable winds.

Not much on offer for most of the next working week. A strong high in the Tasman blocks the Southern swell window so only tiny levels of S swell are expected, possibly a minor bump Mon and Wed but nothing more than a few 2ft sets at S facing beaches. Winds should remain offshore W-NW if you are looking around.

Further ahead and things look juicier later next week as a strong cold front sweeps in and conjoins with an area of low pressure exiting the Gippsland coast (see below). Fresh S’lies and a building S swell to 5-6ft on Thurs, slowly easing Fri and into the weekend.

Front brings S swell next week

We’ll also pencil in a SE swell for Sun as the tail of a fetch on a Tasman low sends swell to Tasmania. Lets see how it looks on Mon.

Check you then and have a great weekend!
