This week and next week (Apr10-Apr 19)

Central QLD: Tiny but just surfable waves

Just rideable waves on low tides with offshore conditions.

When I say tiny and just rideable, I mean exactly that- still breaking on Fri

There’s currently a robust Tasman low, still intensifying, moving slowly SE off the Central NSW coast down into the Tasman Sea towards New Zealand. Gales to severe gales wrapping the SW flank of the low are outside the CQ swell window and won’t supply any useful swell. NE infeed into the low and a retreating E’ly fetch in the South Pacific will both add small E swell sources into the mix and maintain just rideable surf at locations open to ocean swells on the CQ coast.

Winds in the Coral Sea next week supply rideable waves

Expect just rideable surf for the rest of the week on low tides. A SE surge on Fri into the weekend now looks weaker and further north so surf is expected to stay tiny over this period. Small E swell should keep the surf just rideable into early next week.

We’re also looking at some longer range E swell making landfall from a distant E’ly fetch that will supply some inconsistent 2-3ft sets from Tues into Wed and Thurs.

Fri Update: Some signs of a rebuild in SE-E/SE winds in the Coral Sea next week should add to the mix and hold rideable surf from Tues-Fri.
