(Boomerang Beach, NSW - Thursday, 29 July 2010): Great waves and amazing surfing highlighted day two of the Ocean & Earth NSW Junior Surfing Titles, as scores soared at Boomerang Beach.

Bringing the best 220 junior surfers across the state, day two saw a complete contrast to the conditions seen yesterday. Greeted with an increased in swell and light off-shore winds, Boomerang Beach provided the perfect canvass for some of the world's best under 16 surfers.

Led by the style, speed and flair of Mitchell Parkinson (Tweed Heads, NSW) day two led up to high expectations. Emulating the form of his well known cousin, ASP World Tour surfer, Joel Parkinson, Mitchell threw down the highest heat score of the day with an impressive 16.25 (out of a possible 20).

Not far behind Parkinson was Ulladulla's Matt King, who was at his effortless best. Using a tried and tested top/bottom turn combination, King accumulated a total heat score of 13.00 (out of a possible 20), cementing his place in the next round.

With all surfers vying for a spot in Team NSW to compete at the Australian Junior Surfing Titles at Phillip Island, toward the end of the year, competitors were laying it all on the line. Michael Bain (Copacabana, NSW), Josh Szele (Warilla, NSW) and Michael Wright (Lennox Head, NSW) also featured in the winners circle, enjoying the pristine peaks of Boomerang.

Returning to the Great Lakes region for the third straight year, the Ocean & Earth NSW Junior Surfing Titles has become a part of the local furniture.

"It is great to host the Ocean & Earth Junior Surfing titles again," said Richard Old, Manager for Tourism and Marketing. "This is an important event on the Great Lakes calendar and brings visitors to the region during a normally quieter time of the year."

"The Great Lakes has a close relationship with water and the region is renowned for its top surfing. The Ocean & Earth Junior Surfing titles give us a chance to showcase the region to the surfing fraternity," he continued.
