Children's play The Surfer and the Mermaid is on for a two week season at the Bondi Pavilion through the Tamarama Rock Surfers Theatre Company, and co-produced by the Gold Coast Arts Centre and the Bleach Festival.

The Surfer and the Mermaid features the stunning photography of Ted Grambeau, capturing mermaid model Hanna Fraser swimming with Humpback Whales in Tonga. The images are used as the basis for an enchanting story of a boy who falls in love with surfing, and is then granted entry to the underwater world to discover the urgent need to protect our oceans. The Surfer and the Mermaid enjoyed a sell-out season on the Gold Coast for the Bleach Festival. Pro surfer Bede Durbidge took his young family along and had this to say about the show:

"I really enjoyed seeing it with the family. My girl's only a year and half but she was really intrigued by it. It brought back so many memories of growing up around the ocean - I thought they were telling a story about me. I loved it and everyone should see it. It's great for all the kids to see so they can learn to respect and care for the ocean."

The Surfer and the Mermaid is written by Tim Baker, stars Luke Townson, directed by Melinda Collie Homes, with musical direction by Nadia Sunde. Tickets can be bought here.
