Surfing filmmaker Tim Bonython has produced his best effort yet with his extraordinary film Immersion, which has just won him the prestigious Beacon Award at the Maui Film Festival and also the audience award in the Extreme Cinema category.

Bonython is coming to Perth for a special screening of Immersion to raise money for humanitarian organization SurfAid.

The charity screening will be held at Hoyts Millennium, Collie St, Fremantle on Thursday 12 July at 6.30pm. Tickets are $40 for adults and $20 for children under 15 and can be bought here.

Bonython filmed Immersion over seven years, conducting interviews with the legends of surfing and filming images of breath-taking wave riding from all corners of the globe. Immersion looks at every aspect of surfing - from its early history, the evolution of surfboards, the science of surfing, the growth of the sport and development of competition, to how surfing is portrayed in the media and the counter culture that has grown worldwide.
Immersion takes you to some of the world's most isolated, notorious and picturesque surfing locations and Bonython was there on some of the biggest days ever recorded.

Yet Immersion is not just big waves and boards as the film covers all aspects of the sport - from bodysurfing and bodyboarding, surf ski, long board and stand up paddleboarding. "Immersion is an incredible experience and has a spine-tingling soundtrack," SurfAid Development Manager Jo Lynas said. "We are very privileged that Tim is travelling to Western Australia for this special charity screening for SurfAid and he'll be able to give good insights into the making of this epic film."

Legendary WA photographer Russell Ord will be a special guest on the night.
