The Reef What is 'The Reef'?

In 2008 Victorian surfer and filmmaker, Mick Sowry, created Musica Surfica, a film that followed surfers and musicians travelling to King Island to surf finless boards by day and make music by night.

The film was so successful - at least conceptually succesful, Mick would argue it was financially successful - that he's now taking a similar troupe to the West Australian desert. The two main protagonists from Musica Surfica, Derek Hynd and violinist Richard Tognetti, return as does photographer Jon Frank. 

The Reef is a wild experiment without script or storyboard. The camp is full of musicians, filmmakers, photographers and a lone writer, Steve Shearer. Steve will be supplying Swellnet with stories and articles from The Reef for the next two weeks.
