With clinical and high-scoring displays in his Round 1 and 3 heats Mick Fanning became the form surfer on his side of the draw. In each heat he surfed he read the conditions perfectly and shut his opponents out early, however a wind change just before the Final caught him off guard and he failed to adjust. Still, it was an excellent competition for Fanning and he redeemed his third round discharge at Snapper. He sits at sixth on the rankings.
