About dan-burke

i'm interested in shaping, evolution, and the impasses that shaping has taken due to competitive surfing (moves per wave). at the same time, i'm obviously keen on my evolution as a 35 yr old surfer as i certainly have not peaked due to only seriously surfing for about 3 years (hunting surf at least 3 x a week). my surfing accelerated after purchasing a custom Bruce Montgomery (ex hot brews, cordingley, santosha, now one of the best craftsman in the west, some say australia) double concave 6'4" fish. This got my paddling sorted and my wave-count off the richter. It taught me everything about flow and a bit about fin set-ups (potential five fin FCS). i like following comp surfing, but the thing i like most is hitting a section just right to feel like youve surfed a wave properly. at this stage that means doing a reo, floater (i surf heaps of closeouts), or hunting barrels. throwing spray is not common for me, so watching all those spirally aerial vids is kinda stupid - give me guys carving a full wave any day. i've been a "local" at esperance and gero, and teach high school english in my spare time. cheers to swellnet, your site is hot.
