The southern states have had a good run of late. While NSW and QLD have been wallowing away with listless NE windswells, WA, SA,Vic and Tassie have been copping the real deal. A series of lows have traversed at a higher latitude than is normal at this time of year and established a sustained zonal flow across the Southern Ocean.

The result has been some serious size on all the exposed southern coastlines.

Last week in South Oz, the onslaught of swell was met with favourable winds, so Jeff Schmucker roped in a bunch of local lads (plus one East Coast ring-in) and made the journey to one of the states best big waves.//STUART NETTLE
