I don't know much about this comp or the wave at which it's held - Punta Roca. From the photos it looks like a soft-topped Lennox transferred to shimmering tropical climes. Competitors were a mix of Latin America's finest, wide-ranging US 'QS warriors, and twilight pros such as Shane Beschen and Tom Curren.

In the end it was a gringo with the oh-so-American name of Hank Gaskell coming home over the top of Hawaiian, Dege O'Connell.
