This summer Queensland has been living up to the latter part of Dorothy McKellar's famous poetic line about Australia: “a land of sweeping plains, of rugged mountain ranges, of drought and flooding rains .” Those flooding rains have had some towns in Queenslands north under water for the best part of a month.

On the weekend the south-east coast of Queensland was inundated by water in a different form.

A low formed off the coast on Friday providing six feet of east swell however, due to the low's position, the wind was onshore. As the low tracked south during Friday and Saturday the wind swung toward the south and then west.

Sunday dawned with the swell hanging in at a solid four to six feet and the wind was straight offshore from the west. The combination of swell and wind was perfect for the Gold Coast points and Adam Weathered took in the action at Kirra and Snapper.// STUART NETTLE
