Cronulla,
Australia (Tuesday, August 22, 2006): Aerial Assassin Alex Chacon of Avalon
punted his way to victory in the Kustom Shoot the Moon Demo Day at
Cronulla. In clean, but small waves at Cronullas famed Alley
rip-bowl, Chacon showed that the Best Kustomised Maneuver prize he
picked up earlier in the year at the Gold Coast Billabong Pro Teen was no fluke,
landing a huge Indy Grab 180 spin to take out the event.
In the man-on-man final, Tim Taplin of East Lynne showed he
was no slouch in the air landing a well-executed Alley-Oop but is was not enough
to pip Chacon, who took home a very sweet Kustom pack for his efforts.
Earlier in the day Cronulla locals Jordan Widenstom and Luke
Weinert got some sweet air conditions progressing through to the Semi-Finals but
came unstuck against the more superior Chacon and Taplin.
Running concurrently with the open expression session was
the Kustom Team-Rider Session, pitting top Kustom riders against each other. The
strong Cronulla crowd was treated to some aerial wizardry as the boys went crazy
landing a plethora of aerial variations.
In the end it was Manlys Paul Evens who got the judges
approval, riding out of a massive Alley-Oop to out-point local Cronulla hero Dylan
Hannahs double grab and Chris Chippa Wilsons smooth 360
spin.
