Dee Why - Manly NSW
(Sunday, September 24th, 2006) Dylan Hannah (Cronulla/NSW) took out today's
Arnette Pro Junior with a display of some of the best small wave surfing ever
seen at an ASP Australasian event at Queenscliff Beach Sydney.
In perfect clean 0.5m waves (1-2 feet) the small wave performance surfing
throughout today's quarter finals through to finals was quite amazing with nine
point rides common throughout the day. Hannah and fellow finalist Jayke
Sharpe were the standouts all event and their final was close to the end with
multiple lead changes.

Sharpe, who held the lead and priority at the fifteen minute mark of the final
elected to take the smallest wave of an approaching set which probably gave the
final to Hannah who took the second larger and better wave of the set which was
a decisive 7.5 ride winning ride.

That wave offered Hannah multipe scope to perform a series of powerful bottom
to top turn combinations along with a clean speedy cut back and it was the highest
scoring ride in the final. "I'm so pleased to win one of these events,
it's my final season on the Pro Junior tour and next weeks event at Bells will
be the final pro junior for me - The waves have been a lot of fun, not big but
really workable and Jayke in particular has surfed great all week."

It was Jayke Sharpe's best ever performance in a Pro Junior as well and the
17 year old Coff's Harbour Surfer looks set for a big future. His quarter and
semi final wins today were massive with high 8 and 9 point rides.

"I've had a great time here and really pleased with 2nd, I couldn't quite
get the waves I needed in the final to score big but still to make the final is
a good feeling and to be the top rated surfer from Coff's Harbour this year is
also good for me!" Both Hannah and Sharpe were surprise finalists
here today with all the top seeds eliminated before the semi finals!

With Bells Beach set to host the final event of the ASP Australasian Junior
Series this week (beginning Wednesday), the race for season ratings champion has
never been so tight. Nine surfers remain in contention to win the series and most
likely the overall winner at Bells Beach will be the season's champion.

Just as important is qualification into the ASP Billabong World Pro Junior
Championships with the final top four on the ratings securing a position into
that event which also runs in Sydney next January.

Dion Atkinson (South Australia), Mitch Coleborn (Sunshine Coast), Laurie Towner
(Angourie NSW), Owen Wright (Sth Coast NSW), Julian Wilson (Sunshine Coast), Matt
Wilkinson (Central Coast NSW), Wade Goodall (Sunshine Coast), Brendan Leckie (Gold
Coast) and Nick Riley (Queenscliffe/Sydney) will all be vieing for ASP Australasian
Season Champion for 2006 and qualification into the World Pro Junior championships!

For the first time ever, a South Australian in Dion Atkinson (seaford) holds
the lead on the ASP Australasian Ratings. Dion made the quarter finals here to
finish 9th overall, moved to the top of the ratings and scored the events only
perfect 10 point ride.

Next weeks final event is the Billabong Pro Teen at Bells Beach and it looks
set to have great waves and provide the best finish ever to the Pro Junior season
- It begins on Wednesday!
